Toronto, due to it’s thousands of miles of deteriorating potable water pipe infrastructure, is especially prone to pinhole leaks in corroded or damaged pipes creating slab leaks. In some circumstances, pipes cannot be lined so “pipe bursting” is used, which involves the physical destruction and outward displacement of the old pipe followed simultaneously by the installation of a new pipe with the same or wider diameter inside the newly created void. Our Toronto trenchless pipe lining company is the only pipe replacement contractor in Ontario that offers a complete array of pipe rehabilitation techniques for residential, commercial, city and industrial applications. We are the only company who does air-inversion pipe lining (from Perma-Liner) and pull-in-place lining (like that manufactured by Nu-Flow).  Sometimes air-inversion pipe lining is not possible, like when lining 2” pipes that have pipe connection that need to stay open. In such cases we would use pull-in-place lining.

Hospitals for example will use Cured-In-Place pipe (CIPP) to rehabilitate their vertical leaking rain drain stacks and leaking sewage pipes, and high-rise apartments would use our epoxy pipe lining process to stop pinhole leaks and slab leaks in their copper water pipes. Cities use our sectional repairs to stop root infiltration at separated clay pipe joints and they use our manhole rehabilitation techniques to stop water infiltration and water exfiltration.

  1. The pipe lining contractor uses a water jetter or mechanical pipe cleaning brushes to remove all scale and corrosion deposits causing drain pipe backups in your broken underground or vertical sewer pipes
  2. Then the pipe lining company uses a video camera to inspect the sewer plumbing pipes and gets a distance measurement for the trenchless underground pipelining
  3. The pipe liner is cut to the correct length and 100% epoxy resin is mixed and used to saturate the pipe sleeve thoroughly
  4. The new liner is installed and allowed to harden under air pressure against the walls of the broken, leaking, or backed up pipe
  5. After 3 hours the new pipe liner has formed a new pipe inside the old pipe and the trenchless pipe process is complete
  6. An “after” video is made for the customer’s records



Reline Church Failing Roof Drains

Location: Church Street Toronto, ON M9N 1N8, Canada

Problem: Cast iron roof drain pipes rusted and leaking

Diagnosis: Corrosion due to moisture and oxygen

Craftsman was contacted by the Cathedral about their failing 125-year old roof drain system. There were 75 roof drain pipes, many of which were leaking behind the brick walls that were two feet thick. The roof drain pipes were over 100’ high reaching all the way up to the dome.

The failing drain lines had caused extensive water damage to the historic structure and excavation to replace the pipes would just cause even more damage. Additionally, there were several bends in the pipe. Another trenchless pipe lining company had attempted to rehabilitate one pipe, and in doing so had damaged the inner walls when they excavated a hole from which to drag in their pull-in-place lining. The correct method to use in this case was air-inversion lining which only requires one access point.

Craftsman used air inversion technology to launch the pipe liner into the top of the drain lines from an elevated lift, thereby not touching the dome and not requiring an excavated hole from which to pull the liner into position. Only three drains were lined per day to ensure sufficient drainage was possible in the event of precipitation. The historic landmark suffered no further damage and the new inner pipes had a fifty warranty with an engineered life of 100 years.

Type: Condo Trenchless Pipe Lining

Problem: Sewer drain stoppage for 6 condo units.
Craftsman got a call from a distressed property manager about sewer backups at a condo complex on Teal Crt. The main drain sewer pipe had been over flowing from cracks causing backups and sewage leaking in to the homes from beneath the surface. Our plumbing / pipe repair expert suggested a pipe inspection and started our high quality video inspection. The pipe filled with many imperfections, primarily with corrosion and joint leaks. The main culprit of this stoppage was a crushed section of pipe near a joint connecting the condo sewer to the city. Our mobile unit was called onsite and a trenchless sewer repair job was done. We didn’t have to tear up the ground and the job site was left clean without a mess. We aim for a very clean work environment and we take the time needed to get it right the first time. We performed a post inspection with CCTV video and confirmed the job was perfect. Recent Project near airport: Underground Pipe Lining at Popular Pub on Dixon Rd, Toronto, ON

  • Symptoms – toilet pipe clogged, repeated flooding spilling sewage
  • Diagnosis – broken clay lateral sewer pipe under walkway next to road

We received an urgent request to repair a drain pipe at a popular pub Lester B Pearson International Airport. Video inspection showed a broken clay lateral sewer pipe leading from the pub to the sewer main line under the road. A locating device was used to find the precise area for digging to repair the sewer pipe, but the area was right next to the road, under a busy walkway. Excavation for pipe replacement was not an option.

Instead our pipe liner crew installed a new sectional pipe lining from the cleanout located just outside the building. Sectional pipe lining involves relining just a small section of missing, cracked or broken pipe, and is usually used to rehabilitate clay (VCP) pipe which is generally in great condition, except for a few small broken sections of sewer pipe. For the pub it was the fastest, least expensive and least messy option of sewer lateral pipe replacement as the pipe lining installation only took 4 hours of cure time.

So how is sewer pipe relining installed in say a factory?

First of all the drain pipe is inspected with a sewer pipe video inspection camera. This usually has occurred once before when the plumbing company first diagnosed that you need sewage pipe relining. The pipes may have to be “jetted” first if the pipes have too much debris on the walls and floors for sewage pipe relining. The length of sewage pipe relining to be lined is precisely marked on the video cable going into the pipe so that the measurement can be used to cut the correct length of pipe lining tube material.

Then the “liner” is wet out with a precise amount of epoxy resin that hardens by itself and the liner is loaded into an “air gun” which shoots the liner into the pipe. Next a very long balloon of sorts is also shot into the inside of the liner to push it against the wall of the pipe and left inflated during the 3 hour epoxy cure time. The balloon is pulled out after the liner is cured and the new sewage pipe relining is video inspected. Sometimes a robotic cutter will be sent into the relined pipe to cut open any connections with other pipes that were covered up during the pipelining.
