PIPE BURSTING & SLIP LINING: In some circumstances, pipes cannot be lined so “pipe bursting” is used, which involves the physical destruction and outward displacement of the old pipe followed simultaneously by the installation of a new pipe with the same or wider diameter inside the newly created void. The Structural Pipe Lining Installation Process

The pipe lining contractor uses a water jetter or mechanical pipe cleaning brushes, remove all scale and corrosion deposits causing drain pipe backups in your broken underground sewer pipes
Then the pipe lining company uses a video camera to inspect the sewer plumbing pipes and gets a distance measurement for the trenchless underground pipelining
The pipe liner is cut to length and 100% epoxy resin is mixed and used to saturate the pipe sleeve thoroughly
The new liner is installed and the epoxy resin saturated pipe liner is allowed to harden under air pressure against the walls of the broken leaking pipe that needs replacement
After 3 hours the new pipe liner has formed a new inner pipe inside the old pipe and the trenchless pipe process is complete

Featured Project: Re-Lining of 4” cast iron drain line under busy Starbucks in strip mall

Location: Pinch District, Memphis TN

Problem: Cast iron sewer drain pipes rusted and collapsing

Diagnosis: Corrosion due to moisture and oxygen creating missing pipe floor causing drain blockages

Craftsman was contacted by a property manager of a busy strip mall where a Starbucks was experiencing repeated drain backups. Video inspection indicated that the cast iron that was installed in 1962 had a missing pipe floor and some other areas of the pipe had missing sections.

From a cleanout located outside the building, Craftsman cleaned the broken sewage pipe and then used a sewer pipe video inspection camera to measure the length of pipe that had to be re-lined with the new inner pipe. Then the precise length of Perma Liner brand pipe liner was cut and saturated with self-hardening 100% epoxy resin. The entire liner was rolled up into a Permaliner “inversion” tank that was then used to “shoot the new liner down into the broken drain pipe. Then a special long balloon was sent down the length of pipe to hold the new pipe liner against the pipe wall for the hours of cure time. Then the balloon was removed and the new pipe inspected.

All work was performed after hours, from outside the building so as not to disrupt shopping activities.

Type: Trenchless Sectional Pipe Lining Repair

Problem: Clay VCP sewer main line causing backups into laterals of buildings

Diagnosis: Video inspection showed separated pipe joint allowing root intrusion

Craftsman performed a trenchless pipeline job for building owner that was experiencing repeated drain clogs in their sewer pipe laterals going to their buildings. Investigation showed that the sewer main was backing up from root intrusion. Since the sewer main line was 409’ long, the expense of relining the entire sewage pipe would be a very expensive pipelining undertaking, not to mention that bypass pumping would be required to handle the sewer flow during the trenchless pipelinine rehabilitation.

Instead Craftsman installed a sectional liner (sectional repairs), which is a short piece of pipe liner installed just where it is needed. The sectional pipe repairs technology allows the new pipeliner to be installed without the need for bypass pumping, as the balloon/bladder that holds the lining material against the wall has a “flow through” pipe through the center of it. So all the tenants of the buildings were allowed continued use of their sewage pipelines during the trenchless pipeline rehabilitation.
