PIPE BURSTING & SLIP LINING: In some circumstances, pipes cannot be lined. Sometimes pipe bursting is used, which involves the physical destruction and outward displacement of the old pipe followed simultaneously by the installation of a new pipe with the same or wider diameter inside the newly created void. 40-50 years ago a revolutionary rubber pipe connector was invented, then patented and used to attach PVC pipes to cast iron pipes. Since then the invention disappeared and here’s why: it was unique in that it could fit around the outside of cast iron pipes and has a tapered end allowing it to be glued to the inside of PVC pipe. The problem was that after a few decades of drying and shrinkage, the glue and rubber separated from the inside of the PVC, creating pipe leaks.

Perma-liner technology was used to rehabilitate five 100’ length leaking roof drains in just two days. We re-lined all 5 one-hundred foot stacks from the rooftop in two days, without disturbing the privacy of the million-dollar condo residents. Usually this trenchless pipe rehab is done for rusted vertical sewer pipes in the walls of condos or tall buildings that need sewer line replacement for broken pipes. We were the chosen permaliner installer (permaliner contractor) in Houston as we had the most high-rise experience.

At the luxury Woodhaven condominium complex in Houston, TX, residents were experiencing regular backups and sewage problems. Video inspection showed that the 40-year old cast iron pipe had rusted to such an extent that the pipe floor was missing and open cracks were letting roots and soil block flow in the pipes.

Plumbers were suggesting excavating all the concrete floors and walls in 10 buildings in order to replace the plumbing, meaning the residents would have to vacate their premises for at least 3 weeks and the project would take around 5 months to complete at a cost of around $200,000.

By using the Perma-Liner air inversion cured-in-place pipe rehabilitation, we installed new pipes within the old pipes at a rate of 1 building per day. The total project lasted 2 weeks and was completed under budget at a cost of $98,000 to the association.
