PIPE BURSTING & SLIP LINING: In some circumstances, pipes cannot be lined so “pipe bursting” is used, which involves the physical destruction and outward displacement of the old pipe followed simultaneously by the installation of a new pipe with the same or wider diameter inside the newly created void. The Structural Pipe Lining Installation Process

The pipe lining contractor uses a water jetter or mechanical pipe cleaning brushes, remove all scale and corrosion deposits causing drain pipe backups in your broken underground sewer pipes
Then the pipe lining company uses a video camera to inspect the sewer plumbing pipes and gets a distance measurement for the trenchless underground pipelining
The pipe liner is cut to length and 100% epoxy resin is mixed and used to saturate the pipe sleeve thoroughly
The new liner is installed and the epoxy resin saturated pipe liner is allowed to harden under air pressure against the walls of the broken leaking pipe that needs replacement
After 3 hours the new pipe liner has formed a new inner pipe inside the old pipe and the trenchless pipe process is complete

Featured Project: Pipe leak repair of waterfall supply line at miniature golf course

Location: Baltimore, Maryland (MD)

Problem: Leaking 6” corrugated water supply line going to waterfall

Diagnosis: Structural stresses broke pipeline causing pressurized pipe leaks

Craftsman was contacted the owner of a miniature golf course that was experiencing water loss from their waterfall. The approximate location of the leak was underneath the golf course, creating wet conditions and not allowing excavation for pipe replacement.

Using pipe video inspection camera, Craftsman determined precisely where the leak was located, 65’ away from the pump room. Relining the entire 230’ of pipe would have been very expensive and unnecessary, so they relined only the 1^st 70’ to be sure they covered the leaking pipe.

The point of entry for the Permaliner pipeliner was the pump return line in the pump house. Since the Perma-Liner equipment technology only requires one access point from which to shoot the pipeliner down the pipe, no excavation of the golf course was required. The installation was performed at night so that the repaired pipe could continue operating during business hours.

Recent Project in Maryland: Challenging Pharmaceutical Pipe Rehabilitation, Baltimore, MD

Type: Cured-In-Place pipe lining of waste line

Problem: 50-year old cast iron waste pipe under terrazzo flooring and affixed production equipment causing drain blockage

Diagnosis: Pipe had corroded and become very rough catching on waste, and longitudinal pipe cracks were leaking sewage into the environment

Craftsman was assigned the job to rehabilitate 259’ of 4” and 6” cast iron sewage pipe running the length under a historic terrazzo floor and affixed pharmaceutical production equipment. No excavation was permitted as the terrazzo floor had to be preserved. Since there was only one access point for each section of pipe, other competitors using pull-in-place pipe lining were excluded. To make matters more complicated, there were several pipe connections inside the broken pipes that could not be covered up by the pipe lining installation. Further, production continued 24 hrs per day and could not be interrupted, except on weekends.

Since Craftsman Pipe Lining was the only company who offered “multi-sectional air inversion lining” that uses air to shoot many single sections of pipe lining into the pipe simultaneously, skipping over the pipe connections, they were chosen for this seemingly impossible task.

The crew set up on Friday evening, cleaning the pipes and taking video measurements for Saturday. On Saturday the multi-sectional liners were inverted into the pipelines and cured for 3 hours. Sunday final video-recorded inspections were made and all pipe connections tested for functionality. Craftsman had preserved the terrazzo flooring and saved the customer millions in production downtime.
