If you have roots in your sewer pipe or you have a corroded bottomless cast iron pipe with rough edges or rusty surfaces, you may find your kitchen sink is backed up, or the toilet is backed up, or your drains are blocked. If the sewage pipe is cracked, you may even notice a foul odor emanating from the floor or condominium walls. The roots in the sewer pipe will always grow back in search of water, no matter how often you unblock the root damaged pipe. Also, cracked and broken pipes result in water infiltration which causes sewer processing costs to increase, and water exfiltration, which means sewage is leaking into the environment!
If the broken pipe is in an apartment wall like leaking vertical roof drains or vertical sewer pipes, then the collateral damage can become quite extensive from a blocked drain. Imagine the second floor condo flooding every time someone flushes a toilet on any of the twenty floors above it, and imagine nobody notices the clogged drain for a few days!
Cured In Place Pipe (CIPPÂ Pipe Lining)
Pipelining (Pipe Lining) can replace pipes without digging up walls, floors, driveways or landscaping. The pipelining process installs a pipe-within the old pipe, typically from a rooftop or outside the building where the sewer service lateral comes out under the building on the way to the sewer main line. Sewer main lines can also be relined, but the re-lining can be done in its entirety or just in small sections (sectional pipe repair | point repair).
The pipe liner will install the cured-in-place-pipe (CIPP) typically from one access point, and the pipe lining will harden in 3 hours. There are different types of pipe coatings, some are structural where they are as thick and strong as a new pipe (CIPP), others are merely a pipe coating (epoxy pipe lining). Not all pipeline coatings are the same either, it depends on what the pH, temperature and structural conditions are inside the pipeline.
Where Can Pipe Lining (CIPP) Be Used?
The lining process can be used to rehabilitate virtually any type of pipe including; clay pipe, cast Iron, orangeburg, PVC, ABS, HDPE, concrete pipe, roof drain stacks, vertical pipelines such as roof leaders, electrical conduit lines and chiller pipelines, and all underground piping.
Epoxy Pipe Lining For Small Pipes
When drinking water pipes corrode, the copper pipes get pinhole leaks and the water becomes discolored and tastes bad. The resulting slab leak repair is done by excavating the concrete and repiping the drinking water pipe. The slab leak repair is temporary because the remaining galvanized pipe or copper pipe will leak soon thereafter. Repiping the entire structure is very costly and some sometimes the downtime can be even more costly (repiping hotels, factories, condos, apartments).
Epoxy pipe rehabilitation is quite simple: first open both ends of the potable water pie that needs repair. Then using air pressure, sandblast the inside of the pipe to remove oxidation deposits and scale. Lastly use air pressure to coat the entire water system with epoxy pipe lining and test for water leaks. This is the best water repiping method.
Epoxy Pipe Lining For Large Pipes
Epoxy spray pipe lining rehabilitates pressurized water mains, fire suppression pipes and heated industrial pipes ranging from 4″ to 24″ in diameter. The epoxy spray coating seals leaking pipes with an anti corrosion coating centrifugally spraying 1 to 7.5 millimeters of a solvent-free, protective epoxy coating onto the inner surface of the pipe. The epoxy pipe lining process removes all pipe corrosion and tuberculation and restores the pressure and flow requirements of the fire hydrant pipe or drinking water pipe. This tough trenchless epoxy pipe coating process can rehabilitate 550 feet of rusted blocked pipes at one time, and protects against future corrosion and buildup without the cost and disruption of excavation and replacement. Pipe Bursting & Slip Lining - The Last Resort
If the underground pipe is too badly damaged for pipe relining, a new pipe can be pulled inside of the old pipe. Slip Lining involves pulling a new pipe inside the old pipe thereby reducing the internal diameter somewhat, which may not matter if it is the rehabilitation of concrete storm drains or overflow pipe on golf courses for example. But for trenchless pipeline rehabilitation of oil pipelines, a reduction in internal diameter could reduce flow rates too much, in which case Pipe Bursting is used.
Pipe bursting is similar to slip lining, except at the front end of the new pipe a conical pointed head is breaking up the old pipe and pushing it aside. The new pipe liner can have a larger diameter than the old pipe being replaced. Whether slip ling of pipe bursting, the connections with influent pipes have to be reestablished. Manhole Rehabilitation
Eventually sewer manholes physically disintegrate due to aggressive environmental conditions inside the sewer system that needs rehabilitation. The result is water infiltration or water exfiltration.
The two primary ways to rehab manholes is through the application of a coating such as epoxy or polyurethane, or to install a physical lining such as fiberglass manhole rehabilitation or manhole lining using a drop-in cured-in-place bag. We offer all variations of manhole rehabilitation throughout the United States.
